Zara's new collection

With a couple of upcoming events and birthdays (including my own) I have been saving my cash to spend on something extra special. I recently took a little break from work and happened to check out the new collection from Zara. How amazed I was! The asymmetrical hemlines, collar details, and mint green blouses are making me wish there was a Zara nearby to escape to on my lunch break. Here are a few of their newest items that I am lusting after!

Shopping Alert- Pixie Market

Through my usual daily reading of Refinery29 today, I came across a fabulous online retailer Pixie Market! With an upcoming birthday, Valentine's Day, and a few work events just around the corner I have been on a hunt for a couple dress additions to my closet. However, I have been a tad bored with the options I have seen in stores and am looking for some items that are a little unique and add something different to my preexisting wardrobe (a la decorated collar, leather detail, neon colors, high-low hemlines, etc). Well, Pixie Market seems to be my solution! Here are a few items I have placed on my wish list.

Pop Your Collar

Not in the Jersey shore “pop your polo tee” kind of way, but in the make that neckline stand out kind of way! Make a statement sans any actual accessories with a Peter Pan collar, studded collar, or even a sequined collar! I plan on turning this trend into a little DIY project with a couple old button downs, some glue, and some flat backed studs!

Need a few suggestions to try this out? The easiest way is to layer a button up shirt under a looser fitting sweater, making sure the collar is sticking out over the sweater. You can purchase a collar by itself like the sequined one from Asos and put this on over any sweater to really make your outfit stand out. If you’d rather try something new, here are a few cute options;

Put A Bow On It

When I’m in a fight with my closet (as in I have a million things but am sick of everything) I try to find accessories that can change my look without costing me a fortune. In my recent search for a few new items I have been drawn to bows! “Putting a bow on it” it just the right piece to make my outfit a bit more fun and feminine. Here are a few of my favorite bow accessories.

Cheap Date

I have been trying to really embrace this awesome weather, instead of cursing it for the lack of snow our local mountains have gotten. A couple weeks ago, my boyfriend and I grabbed a 6 pack of craft beer from Cap n Cork in Los Feliz and a couple snacks and headed to The Getty. We drank our beers on the lawn, people-watched, walked around the gardens, and enjoyed the exhibits. It was exactly how I wanted to spend my Sunday.

Get Your Neon On

2012 has started off with beautiful weather in Los Angeles. With temperatures in the mid 70s this past week and expecting to continue through the weekend I have been finding myself leaning towards spring season shopping already! One of my favorite spring trends is Neon. Here are a few tips on how to work these awesome colors into your outfits properly without time warping back to 1980!

Start off small- A bit uneasy attracting so much attention with a neon blouse or sweater? Start of small by adding one of the below skinny belts to an outfit, or a pair of neon earrings.

Keep accessories to a minimum- don’t go overboard with neon clothing and sparkly, bold, statement pieces. Instead, pair your neon top with more modern, geometric, or metal accessories.

Be monochromatic-For a monochromatic look, stick with just one color and pair a neon pink blouse with a neon pink bracelet. But be careful, the neon trend can go from tasteful to tacky very easily.

Bring in the neutrals- black, white, grey, and nude colors help offset the brightness of wearing neon.

Last minute NYE dresses that won't break the bank

All the Christmas shopping is done but although I may have slipped a blouse or sweater for myself in my shopping cart, I still managed to forget to purchase a New Year's Eve dress. With only two weeks until the festive holiday, here are a few options for last minute dresses that won't max out your credit card (if you haven't done it already).

1. Shopbop

2. Madewell Nightfever dress (add a skinny belt to get more waist definition)
3. Sequin BodyCon dress (more colors available)
